BWF World Championships 2018: Saina Nehwal Loses to Spain's Carolina Marin in Quarterfinals

Shanghai, August 3: Saina Nehwal lost the quarter-final match of the World Badminton Championships 2018, to rival and Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marin of Spain in straight games, in Nanjing, China, on Friday.

Saina Nehwal, who was the tenth seed, lost 6-21, 11-21 to the seventh seed Carolina Marin. The match lasted for only 31 minutes. Saina just could not match the aggression and speed of Marin, right from the word go.

Marin, with this victory, has ensured that Saina and her head to head record now stand tied at 5-5. Marin is all set to face China's He BingJiao in the semifinal on Saturday.

In other news related to Indian players in the World Badminton Championships, third-seeded PV Sindhu, will face the eight seeded Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa, the mixed doubles pair, also lost their quarter final clash after their defeat to the Chinese duo of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong.
