Indian Athlete Avinash Sable on Tuesday qualified for finals of men’s 3000m steeplechase in the ongoing World Athletics Championships 2019. The sprinter broke his own national record in the event but had earlier failed to qualify for the finals. However, India appealed for his qualification in the finals since he was blocked by some other racers during the event. During the event, Sable was blocked by reigning junior world champion Takele Nigate of Ethiopia. Also, he had to hump over other competitors as four-five athletes at the rear fell over each other. Annu Rani Shatters Her Own National Record in Javelin Throw During IAAF World Athletics Championships 2019, Qualifies for Finals.

Athletics Federation of India revealed about Sable’s qualification on Twitter. Sable suffered hurdles two times during the race which affected his performance. First, he had to jump over some athletes who fell over each other. In the other incident, Nigate bumped into an obstacle just in front of Sable. Hence he had to virtually climb up the obstacle as he was blocked by the Ethiopian racer. This led the Indian racer losing some crucial time in the event. Indian 4x400m Mixed Relay Team Finishes at 7th Position in World Athletics Championships 2019.

Well Done Avinash!

Avinash Through to Finals!

The 24-year-old athlete clocked 8:22:51 minutes to finish seventh in first round heat number 3 and 20th out of the 44 athletes who successfully finished the race. Sable's earlier national record was 8:28:94 minutes. This was set by Sable during the Federation Cup in March this year. The top three racers in each of the three heats and the next six fastest racers qualify for the final race. Hence, Sable did not qualify for the final at first.
