The Paris Olympics 2024 is set to get underway in the French capital on July 26 with a glittering opening ceremony set to take place. More than 10,000 athletes will compete at the Paris Olympics.
The shocking development of an Australian woman's alleged gang rape has rocked the city of Paris, days before the Olympics 2024 gets underway. As per reports, the 25-year-old woman ran into a kebab shop with her dress partially torn to seek help and was followed by a man who she identified as one of the accused. A confrontation took place between him and a customer which saw him leave the spot before police arrived. The distressed lady was subsequently taken to a hospital. It was also learnt that the police are currently conducting an investigation into this incident.
Australia's Chef de Mission Anna Meares has asked the athletes of her contingent to avoid wearing team uniforms while stepping out in public places. Security has already been beefed up in the city of Paris before the Olympics get underway amid reports of a number of threats. Speaking at a press conference, Meares said, "There's not a lot of detail and information that has come through, and what information we're passing on to our athletes is that the security presence is really, really high," she added. "We don't yet have any feedback from our athletes that they have felt unsafe. We are encouraging them, if they go out of the village, not to go out on their own, not to wear team uniform, just to wear plain clothes," Meares added. The Paris Olympics 2024 will see more than 10,000 athletes from the 203 National Olympic Committee (NOCs) compete across 329 events.
