Atta Elayyan, Futsal Goalkeeper, Among Killed in New Zealand Terror Attack
Apart from playing Futsal, Atta Elayyan was a professional Counter-Strike player and app developer.
Atta Elayyan, a 33-year-old Futsal goalkeeper, was among the victims of the terrorist attack on Mosques in Christchurch on Friday, March 15 in which 50 people lost their lives. Elayyan was praying at the Al Noor Mosque when he was shot dead. The Kuwait-born player represented New Zealand Futsal Whites in 19 internationals. Elayyan was the goalkeeper for the Canterbury United Futsal Dragons and had received a futsal player of the year award in 2014. He is survived by wife Farah and young daughter Aya. Elayyan all set to coach his Christchurch Boys' High School futsal team at the secondary school nationals in a week's time but lost his life in the tragic terror attack.
Elayyan’s former coach at Canterbury, Naicker remembered how the 33-year-old would help people around him. "He tried to give back to his old school by coaching teams. Even though he didn't have the time he still found time and he did it all for nothing. He never asked for anything in return. He was a truly exceptional human being,” Naicker was quoted as saying by Stuff. Besides playing Futsal, Elayyan owned app development company- LWA Solutions. As per the Stuff, his company provided mobile solutions for some of the biggest brands in New Zealand and the Middle East. The departed also received recognition as one of New Zealand's most transformative technology and digital leaders at industry awards in 2017 and 2018.
