The Asian Wrestling Championship 2019 was held in Xian, China from April 23 to Aril 28. A total number of 10 countries participated in this event. The action took place at Xidian University Gymnasium. The event became glorious for India as they finished at the 8th spot with 16 medals. India's Greco Roman Wrestlers Sunil Kumar(87kg) and Gurpreet Singh (77kg) bagged the silver medal in the recently concluded Asian Wrestling Championship. Kumar wasn't able to grab the gold as he lost Iran's wrestler Hossein Ahmad Nouri. On the other hand, Singh lost to Korea's Hyeanwoo Kim 0-8 to lose the gold medal. However, Gurpreet Singh had a massive victory before this match over Bakhit Sharif K Badr of Qatar, where he won 10-0. Bajrang Punia(65kg) from India's men freestyle bagged a gold medal, while Amit Kumar Dhankar and Parveen Rana and Vicky Chahar bagged the silver medal in this division. Harpreet Singh(82kg) also bagged silver medal in men's Greeco Roman style of wrestling. Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Asian Games champion Vinesh Phogat won a bronze medal each as Indian women ended their campaign without a gold medal in the Asian Wrestling Championships. While Pooja Dhanda and Navjot lose playoff in women's category.

Iran finished top in both freestyle and Greeco-Roman style of wrestling while women's category is topped by Japan wrestlers. India bagged 16 medals in Asian Wrestling Championship 2019 which include 1 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals.
