1970 Asian Games – Bangkok – The host city remained unchanged for the 1970 edition with Bangkok winning the rights after Seoul pulled out due to security threats. Japan emerged as the winner with 74 gold, 47 silver and 23 bronze.
1974 Asian Games – Tehran – The games moved to the Middle Eastern part of Asia with Tehran hosting the 1974 event. Despite grave security threats, the games were organised efficiently. Taiwan was expelled from the games while Israel faced boycott. Japan with 75 gold, 49 silver and 51 bronze emerged as the winners.
1978 Asian Games – Bangkok – Singapore backed out on hosting the games hence Bangkok was provided the opportunity to host the 1978 edition. 1982 Asian Games – New Delhi – India got their second opportunity to host the games back in the year 1982. A massive 3411 athletes turned up for this competition with Golf, Handball and Women’s hockey and Rowing all featuring for the first time.
1986 Asian Games – Seoul – South Korea finally were able to host an Asiad with the 10th edition being held in Seoul. Women’s cycling and Judo along with Women’s shotting and Taekwondo made their debut here.
