Asian Games 2018: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Lauds 15-Year-Old Shooter Shardul Vihan

Shardul Vihan, scripted history with on Thursday clinching a silver medal in Men’s Double Trap Event at the Asian Games on the Day 5. The Indian shooter finished on 73 points and was just one point behind  South Korea’s Hyunwoo Shin. Hailing from Meerut, he began competing in 2015 and finished 6th in ISSF World Junior Championship in Moscow in 2017. With the feat at the Asian Games 2018, even the PM Narendra Modi congratulated him for the silver medal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded his effort on Twitter. "The laurels from shooting continue to pour in. The talented Shardul Vihan wins the Silver in the Double Trap event. At the age of 15, Shardul has achieved historic successes and I am sure he will continue to excel in the coming years. Congratulations to him! #AsianGames2018,” he wrote on Twitter.

Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore also tweeted, “WHAT A STAR! At 15 YEARS, Shardul Vihan, one of our youngest in #AsianGames2018, has made us immensely proud with a silver in Double Trap Shooting. His prowess convinces me that the future of Indian sports is in VERY safe hands! #KheloIndia #IndiaAtAsianGames @asiangames2018.”

Ravichandran Ashwin also praised him for the silver medal. “Young Boy, all of just 15 Years old #ShardulVihan wins the Silver in the Double Trap event, Shooting, #AsianGames. Congratulations #Shardul. Indian Sportsmen are definitely making a mark.”
