Hima Das who made the nation proud by clinching three medals at the Asian Games 2018, is finally returning to her hometown Guwahati. A grand welcome awaits the Indian sprinter as she will touch down on her home soil on Friday. Hima will be welcomed with a track-like carpet at the Guwahati Airport and a few reports also state that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be there to receive her. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ponjit Dowarah shared a picture of the carpet on social media. From the airport, Hima will then go to Sarusujai Stadium and have a stop at the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra Memorial. The athlete will further be felicitated at the Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra.

After her arrival to India, the athletics team even met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hima posted the video of the meeting on social media. The caption of the snap read, “It has been a privilege to meet our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi sir. Thank you sir for the encouragement and motivation during this meeting today.”

Right from the beginning of the year, Hima has grabbed headlines with her performance. Being the first Indian to win a gold medal at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships, hopes were pinned on the sprinter at the Asian Games 2018. At the mega event in Jakarta, she won a couple of silver medals in the 400-meter final race and at the mixed event. She then clinched the golden glory at the women’s 4x400 meter relay event.
