Asian Games 2018 Highlights Day 2: Vinesh Phogat Secures Gold Medal, Silver for Shooters Deepak Kumar and Lakshay Sheoran

In men’s sanda 56kg, Santosh Kumar marched into the quarter-final with a 2-0 win. In the men’s sanda 60kg category, Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh advanced to the next roundhe quarter-final a 2-1 win and Narender Grewal won in the men’s sanda -65kg to qualify for quarterfinals as well.

Sumit Malik has failed to win a bronze in men’s freestyle 125 kg category. He loses to Uzbekistan's Modzmanashvili Davit 0-2.

After Pooja Dhanda , Sakshi Malik loses her bronze medal match in women's Freestyle 62 kg category. The India is defeated by North Korea's Jong Sim Rim 12-2 (technical points) 4-1 (class points).

India add two more goals to Indonesia's misery. SV Sunil and Vivek Sagar are the goal-scorers. So in two quarters, India have netted seven goals.

India’s men’s relay team (4x200 freestyle) finish 7th in the final clocking 7:37.07. Japan takes the gold medal after clocking 7:05.17. It is the games record as well. Silver goes to China (7:05.45) while Singapore. (7:14.15) secure bronze.

After the first quarter in men's hockey match, India have taken a 5-0 lead. Rupinder Pal Singh scored twice within first two minutes of the match. Dilpreet, Akashdeep, Simranjeet then further added to India's score.

Pooja Dhanda is outplayed by Japanese wrestler Sakagami. She loses by 6-1 (technical points) 1-3 (class points). In the first period, Pooja looked in good rhythm. However, she was completely outclassed by her opponent in the second period.

In another Gold medal for India, it is Vinesh Phogat who has won it in Women's 50kg Freestyle Wrestling. This is the second Gold medal for India in two days. Earlier it was Bajrang Punia who had won a Gold medal for India.

Karman Kaur Thandi won her women's singles match against Jargal Altansarnai of Mongolia in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Ramkumar Ramanathan, however, had a tricky round of 32 men's singles match against Wong Kit Hong. He won it 6-0, 7-6. Earlier, Ankita Raina also won her women's singles match to advance to last 16.

HS Prannoy's sole win against Indonesia was not enough for Indian men's team to sail through to semis of badminton team event. With Manu Atri-Sumeet Reddy losing 21-14, 21-18 in the fourth rubber, their fate was sealed in this event.

But there's a great news coming from Volleyball event as India beat Hong Kong 3-0 in Pool F game winning it 27-25, 25-22, 22-19.

An absolute shocker for the day as defending champs Indian men's team have lost a match at the Asian Games for the first time ever. The team which made it possible is unified Korean side that defeated India 23-24.

It is not over yet for India as HS Prannoy won the third rubber, second men's singles match against Jonatan Christie. India is now trailing 1-2 against Indonesia who had earlier won the first singles and doubles matches.

19-year-old Lakshay finished second in men's trap shooting to settle for a Silver medal. Manavjit Singh Sandhu just missed by a whisker to remain medal-less. Kunpi Yang of Chinese Taipei bagged the gold medal.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lose 21-19, 19-21, 16-21 against World No 1 pair of Kevin Sanjaya and Marcus Gideon in the men’s doubles match. This defeat comes after Kidambi Srikanth lost to Anthony Ginting 23-21, 20-22, 21-10 in the first match of the tie.

Vinesh Phogat has assured India of a medal by winning Women's Freestyle 50kg category semis bout by technical superiority.

As for Sakshi Malik, she loses her semi-final against Aisuluu Tynybekova in the 62kg weight category and will have a chance at bronze medal via repechage.

Pooja Dhanda was no match to North Korea’s Jong Myong Suk in the women’s 57kg class semi-finals bout. She will now be participating in a bronze medal bout against the winner of the clash between Japan’s Sakagami Katsuki and Tissina Emma.

After an exciting first day of Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games, Indian athletes are geared up for another big day in Indonesia. In Shooting, there are more events and Indian participation on the second day. Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela will be hoping to make to finals of 10m Air Rifle Event. Chandela had earlier won a bronze medal with Ravi Kumar in 10m Air Rifle mixed team event. Manavjeet Singh Sandhu and Lakshay will be in the qualification lineups of Trap Men event. In Badminton, men’s and women’s team events are going to take place. Vinesh Phogat will take on China’s Sun Yanan in Women's Freestyle 50 kg, Pooja Dhanda will face Orasa Sookdongyor of Thailand in Women's Freestyle 57 kg, Pinki will be facing Erdenechimegiin Sumiyaa of Mongolia in Women's Freestyle 53 kg and Sakshi Malik will take on Salinee Srisombat of Thailand in Women's Freestyle 62 kg. They are India’s four female grapplers India has high hopes on. Tennis fans in India will also have a lot of catch on the second day of 2018 Asian Games. Both Indian men's and women's teams had clinched the gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea and are well on course to defend their medals. In their opening matches, men’s team defeated Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and women’s team blasted Japan out of the contest. On Monday, men’s side will face South Korea, the women’s team will take on Thailand. Coming to Hockey, India will be playing Indonesia in Pool A match beginning at 7.00pm IST.
