India on day 12 of the Asian Games 2018 managed to collect a total of five medals, two gold, one silver and two bronze. With it, India’s overall tally moves up to 59 as they occupy an eighth place on the Asian Games 2018 medals tally. India have already crossed the medals tally of 2014 edition of Asian Games. Four years back, India managed to secure 57 medals, including 11 gold, 10 silver, and 36 bronze. On day 12 the two gold medals came India’s way in athletics. Jinson Johnson won the gold in men's 1500m while India won a second gold in women's 4X400 metre event. The Indian quartet of Hima Das, Raju Poovamma, Saritaben Laxmanbhai Gayakwad and Vismaya Koroth registered a time of 3 minutes and 28.72 seconds to finish at the top of the podium. The lone silver medal came in the men's 4X400 metre event as the quartet of Muhammed Kunhu, Dharun Ayyasamy, Muhammed Anas and Rajiv Arokia clocked a time of 3 minutes and 1.85 seconds. Chitra Unnikrishnan Palakeezh and Seema Punia had to settle for the bronze medal in the women's 1500 metre and women's discus throw respectively.
Meanwhile, on day 13, all eyes will be on women’s hockey team as they look to clinch gold medal against Japan in the final. The Indian women's hockey team entered the finals of the Asian Games for the first time since 1998, after defeating World No. 11 China 1-0 in their last-four match at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field. Apart from the hockey, Indian boxers will participate in semifinals as well. Indians will be in action also in the bridge, Canoe/Kayak Sprint, cycling, judo, sailing, table tennis, and volleyball. As we near to the end of the 2018 Asian Games, India will be looking to more and more medals to their overall tally. Meanwhile, China comfortably sits on top of the Asian games 2018 medals tally with 214 medals, which includes 112 gold, 76 silver and 53 bronze. Japan takes second place while Korea is at third.
