It is Day 12 of Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games, and the Indian contingent is looking more confident than ever. All thanks to the brilliant show by the athletics unit who have put on an excellent display at the 18th Asiad in Indonesia. After a string of silver linings, we finally had a number of golden glories on the eleventh day of the multi-sports event. Heptathlete Swapna Barman and triple jumper Arpinder Singh won gold medals to level with India’s gold medal count at Incheon 2014 Asian Games. India’s medal tally at Asian Games is 54 so far with 11 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze. In the previous edition, they had earned a total of 57 medals including 11 gold, ten silver and 36 bronze. With still three days of pure sporting action and several events remaining, the country has a good chance to better their records and also improve their team standings on the medal table, which is spearheaded by China. On Thursday, there are some crucial matches including medal events lined up. As per Day 12 schedule of Asian Games 2018, we have our Indian men’s hockey team taking on Malaysia in semi-finals. Earlier on Wednesday, a resilient Indian women's hockey team stormed into the final after edging past World No.11 China 1-0 in the semi-final to assure a silver medal. Apart from hockey action, we have paddler Manika Batra taking on Thailand’s Nanthana Komwong in the Round of 32. She along with Achanta Sharath Kamal bagged the first-ever bronze medal in the sport after losing in the semis to China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha. They were defeated but not before scripting the history for India in the table tennis. And once again, all eyes will be on track and field from where the country has won the most number of medals (14 = 5 gold, nine silver). It will begin the early morning with Sandeep Kumar taking part in Men's 50km Walk. Govindan Lakshmanan who missed out on a bronze medal in men’s 10,000m walk after a cruel twist of fate will be back in action in men’s 5000m. The army man must know that the entire country would be cheering for his success on August 30. Defending women’s discus thrower Seema Punia will also be in action on Thursday. Vikas Krishan (75kg) overcame bleeding left eye to assure himself of a third successive medal at the Asian Games, while Amit Panghal (49kg) produced a power-packed performance in his quarterfinal bout to guarantee a maiden podium finish in Indonesia.
