As the year 2019 draws to an end, Google released its “Year in 2019” report, which lists down the most searched individual athletes of 2019 spanning all the sports and sporting events throughout the year. The list of athletes released by Google covers all sports and sportsperson across both the men’s and women’s category. The list of top searched athletes releases by Google, enlisted the names of top 10 players. Antonio Brown topped the list followed by Neymar at second in Google’s top 10 searched athletes of the year 2019. Women’s football World Cup winner Alex Morgan also found a spot in the top 10 as did her Ballon d’Or winning national teammate Meghan Rapinoe. But football superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were left out. Surprisingly, Neymar, who has played less 15 games in 2019 and whose season has been troubled by frequent injuries, found a place in Google’s top 10 searched athletes trend but six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who one shy of becoming first European footballer to score 700 international goals were excluded. The list, heavily dominated by Baseball and US National Football League (NFL) players also included young Barcelona sensational Ansu Fati, who on December 11, 2019, became the youngest Champions League goal-scorer after netting against Inter Milan.

Bryce Harper (3), David Ortiz (4), Alex Morgan (5), Andrew Luck (6), Megan Rapinoe (7), Iker Casillas (8), Zion Willamson (9) and Ansu Fati completes the top 10. Former Spain and Real Madrid captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas was another surprise inclusion in the 10-man list.
