Paris Olympics 2024 is gaining traction as the games are approaching closer and teams and athletes are finalizing their participation through qualifications, quota and rankings. But one news that attracted the most attention is the ‘anti-sex bed’. The village of multi-sport event is getting ready with preparations in full swing. According to the New York Post, the anti-sex mattresses are twin-sized, allowing even the largest of athletes to rest on these specially designed beds. Along with this the main reasons An Inside the Games report claims that the main reason given by Olympic authorities for choosing the mattresses this year was sustainability. There was little environmental waste produced by the mattresses and cardboard frames, which are completely recyclable.

Why the name ‘Anti-Sex Bed’ and are they really ‘Anti-sex’

One of the reasons behind so much curiosity about the mattress is the name – anti-sex. Fans are wondering are the beds really ‘anti-sex’ and also the origin behind the unique name. Many would presume these cardboard mattresses are to deter athletes from making love in bedrooms. So why the name ‘Anti Sex Bed’? Well, it was an American distance runner Paul Chelimo, who had at the time speculated on Twitter (now X) that these mattresses were put in place to prevent athletes from having sex while competing in the Tokyo Olympics. The concept was very new and quickly caught up. The name became ‘anti-sex bed’ causing much confusion. With over 10K athletes and 160 countries participating in the multi-sport event, The Paris Olympic Games 2024 will take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
