Ankur Mittal Wins Gold Medal in Double Trap at ISSF World Championship, Sachin Tendulkar Congratulates Indian Shooting Team
India have so far bagged 20 medals at the ISSF World Championship, which includes seven gold and as many silver apart from six bronze medals. India are currently on the second spot with Korea on top.
Shooter Ankur Mittal won the gold medal in men's double trap title at the ongoing 52nd ISSF World Championship on Saturday. It was India’s seventh gold medal at the competition. Ankur shot 140 out of 150 to enter into a shoot-off for the yellow metal as China's Yiyang Yang and Slovakia's Hubert Andrzej also settled with same scores. In the shoot-off, the Indian shooter got the better of the Chinese opponent 4-3 to bag the title as Andrzej missed his second shoot-off clay target to settle for the third place. Not only gold, Ankur also won the bronze medal in the team event with Md. Asab and Shardul Vihaan. The Indian team with a tally of 409 points finished behind China’s 410, Italy’s 411. In other events of the day, Anjum Moudgil, who has already won a silver in 10m air rifle and a 2020 Olympic quota place for India, shot 1170 in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions qualifying round to finish ninth and Manu Bhaker, in the women’s 25m pistol, tallied 584 in qualification to finish 10th.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took tow Twitter and congratulating the Indian shooting team. “Good to see #AnkurMittal winning the Double Trap Gold Medal at the #ISSFWorldChampionships.
