Ankur Mittal settles for the bronze medal in double trap men’s finals event on day seven of Commonwealth Games 2018. The 26-year-old Indian shooter hailing from Delhi finished third on the podium behind David McMath of Scotland and Tim Kneale of Isle of Man who bagged gold and silver medal respectively. Mittal's Indian competitor Ashab Mohd came fourth in the final standings of GC 2018 shooting event. This is day’s third medal (all in shooting) after Om Mitharval’s bronze in 50m pistol and Shreyasi Singh in women’s double trap event to take India’s medal tally in CWG 2018 to 24 including 12 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze. India remains firmly placed at the third position in Commonwealth Games 2018 medal table.
Belmont Shooting Centre is proving to be a happy hunting ground for Indian shooters who have now bagged twelve medals in their kitty. The day began slightly on a disappointing note after defending champion Jitu Rai bowed out of 50m pistol finals event quickly. Nevertheless, young Om Mitharval ensured India ended with a medal from that discipline and secured bronze, his second medal at GC 2018.
It was followed by Shreyasi Singh who bettered her previous Commonwealth Games performance – going from silver to gold in the Gold Coast Games 2018. She won the gold medal in women’s double trap finals event beating Emma Cox of Australia and Linda Pearson of Scotland. And now the third medal of the day is brought home by Ankur Mittal. Overall Indian shooters have put up a fine display in the Commonwealth Games 2018.
Apart from shooters, Indian boxers have also shown a lot of determination and hunger for medals at CWG 2018. Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom advanced to 48kg category finals to assure the team a silver, something she is most likely like to turn into gold. Gaurav Solanki (52kg) and world bronze-medallist Vikas Krishan (75kg) also made to semi-finals assuring India of medals. Earlier on day 6, five boxers Manoj Kumar (69kg), Satish Kumar (91kg), Amit Panghal (49kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg) and Naman Tanwar (91kg) have assured India of medals by moving to the semi-finals. Great work India.
