Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala, all of 15 has hit bull’s eye in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men's Finals event on Day 10 of Commonwealth Games 2018. The teenage shooting sensation clinched the gold medal for India after outranking experienced Sergei Evglevski of Australia and Sam Gowin of England who bagged silver and bronze medals respectively. This is second gold medal for India on the tenth day of CWG 2018 after Tejaswini Sawant clinched the yellow Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions category. India’s medal tally at CWG 2018 has now climbed to 34 including 16 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze. They continue to remain on third place of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games medal table and team standings behind Australia and England.
Born in 2002, Anish Bhanwala is the youngest gold medallist for India in this edition of Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. He surpassed Manu Bhaker, the 16-year-old shooting sensation who bagged the gold medal in women’s 10m air pistol event. Anish shot a total of 30 points to win the gold medal, which also goes down as the Games Record (GR). Australian Sergei Evglevski had a total of 28 points against his name while the bronze medallist Sam Gowin won with 17-point results. Apart from Anish, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men's Finals event saw the participation of another Indian Neeraj Kumar who however failed to make a mark and ended at fifth place.
Along with Tejaswini Sawant and Anish Bhanwala, 24-year-old Anjum Moudgil has also won a medal on Friday. She has claimed the silver medal Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions category finishing behind 37-year-old Tejaswini. India’s total medal count in shooting now stands at 15 including 5 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze.
