'35 Percent Body Fat' Resulted in Prithvi Shaw's Omission From Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Squad: Report
Prithvi Shaw has been dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2024-25 squad for match against Tripura. Shaw's fitness is the reason revealed behind MCA axing the batter.
Once considered a prodigy, the fall of Prithvi Shaw has been nothing short of surprising. Ahead of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Tripura, the Mumbai selection committee axed Shaw from the squad owing to poor fitness. Shaw has been struggling with fitness issues, which according to the Indian Express is the reason behind his ouster. Mumbai selectors have asked the batter to follow a training regime created by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) trainers.
Mumbai support staff have informed MCA that Shaw's body fat is on the higher side — 35 percent — which the batter needs to reduce if he has to return into contention. In the two Ranji Trophy 2024-25 matches thus far, Shaw has scored 7,12,1 and 39*, respectively, which is well below his standards. Reports have also suggested that Shaw has been inconsistent in the training sessions and had disciplinary issues as well, which the team management is not taking lightly.
Shaw so far for India has played five Tests, six One-Day Internationals, and a solitary T20 International, with a century on red-ball debut against West India. But poor form and off-field issues witnessed the opener drop out of favour. Meanwhile, Mumbai, who are fourth in Elite Group A, will meet second-place Tripura on October 26 in Agartala.
