India had perhaps their most memorable day in their 100-year Olympics history as Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw final event. This was India's first gold in track and field athletics and second individual gold medal after shooter Abhinav Bindra, who won the top prize in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. India also had another podium finish through Bajrang Punia, who bagged the bronze medal in the men's 65kg freestyle wrestling category. Overall, India finished the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with seven medals, bettering their performance from the 2012 London Olympics where they had won six. Neeraj Chopra created history as he became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in Javelin Throw at the Olympics. The 23-year-old finished at the top of the podium with a best throw of 87.58. He also became the second gold medallist at the Summer Games from India after Abhinav Bindra in 2008.

Bajrang Punia defeated Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov to win a bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020 in Men's 65kg freestyle wrestling. The Indian won the bout 6-0.
