However before making way to the Opening Ceremony Pandi did not forget to entertain the attendees and displayed its athleticism. The mascot was unveiled ahead of the opening ceremony. In a short clip, the Pandi is seen overcoming all the hurdles and uses its positive energy to overcome all the hurdles. Even exhaustion can’t get in his way to make it to the final goal and then at the end is embraced with ribbons. It also exhibits skills in jumping and various other sports. While speaking about the official mascot of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, the president of the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee, Gerardo Werthein said that Buenos Aires 2018 mascot overcomes all kinds of hurdles just like the athletes. "Like the young athletes that give their best to qualify for the Games, the Buenos Aires 2018 mascot overcomes all types of adversity to reach its goals", he said.
Inspired by a jaguar, an animal found in Argentina's northern region is on the verge of extinction due to human –life activities. Various NGOs are spreading awareness to save the species from getting extinct. With, Pandi being the official mascot of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, the organisers also hope to raise awareness about the species’ risk of extinction.
