The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has launched a historic strike affecting all three major Detroit automakers, General Motors (GM), Ford, and Stellantis, after contract negotiations failed to yield a new agreement. The strike, which marks a significant moment in the automotive industry, commenced as 12,700 workers at three factories walked off the job at midnight. Reportedly, the UAW, representing a substantial 150,000 members, is demanding a 40% pay increase, aligning it with managerial compensation, and advocating for a 32- hour workweek with 40 hours of pay. Despite the company's offer of a 20% wage hike, the union rejected the proposal. With a substantial strike fund of USD 825 million at their disposal, strikers will receive USD 500 a week in compensation for their lost wages as they push for their demands to be met. US: Tibetans in New York Protest Against China, Demand To Release 11th Panchen Lama.
