A "lonely" and potentially "sexually frustrated" bottlenose dolphin has been linked to a series of attacks on swimmers in the seaside town of Mihama in Japan's Wasaka Bay. The dolphin is believed to be responsible for 18 incidents this year alone, including an attack on a primary school-aged child whose finger required over 20 stitches. In Wakasa Bay, located approximately 200 miles west of Tokyo, dolphin attacks have resulted in injuries to at least 47 people since 2022, The New York Times reported. While many victims sustained minor bites on their hands, several were hospitalised with more severe injuries, including broken bones and deep wounds requiring stitches. Authorities are urging swimmers to exercise caution in the area. Bolivia: British National Suffers Injuries After Wild Dolphin Attack, Now ‘Fighting for Her Life’.
