Robert Persichitti, a World War II veteran from the US, died while he was travelling to France's Normandy to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The 102-year-old had witnessed the raising of the US flag at Iwo Jima. The war veteran flew overseas with his guardian and was sailing on a ship down the coast to France when the emergency occurred.
