Phil Donahue, a popular and pioneering US talk show host, passed away on Sunday, August 18, at 88. According to a report in AFP, Phil Donahue breathed his last in Manhattan on Sunday following a long illness. The news of his death was announced on NBC’s Today Show, where he frequently appeared from 1979 to 1988. It must be noted that "The Phil Donahue Show", launched in 1967, was the first on daytime US television to feature audience participation. In May this year, Donahue received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden. Joe Will Award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 Politicians, Activists, Athletes and Others.
