The 5-year-old ostrich managed to reach beyond her exhibit’s fence and ingested the keys. The zoo announced the unfortunate event in a social media post on Friday, stating that both surgical and non-surgical efforts were made to minimise the impact of the swallowed keys. Despite consulting with experts across the U.S., these efforts were unsuccessful. Fawn Moser, the interim director of the Topeka Zoo, expressed her condolences in the zoo’s Facebook post, stating, “She was not just an animal; she was a beloved member of our community.
