A 24-year-old woman from New Jersey was charged with trespassing after a dangerous encounter with a Bengal tiger at the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton. On August 20, Zyair Dennis was caught on camera climbing over a wooden barrier and taunting the tiger by sticking her hand through holes in a wire fence. Video footage, shared by the Bridgeton Police Department, shows the tiger pacing before lunging at her hand, nearly biting it. The woman quickly pulled her hand back and stood frozen before retreating to the walking path. The video, which has gone viral, sparked outrage and concern over the disregard for safety protocols. Dennis has been cited for two city ordinances in addition to the trespassing charge. Fortunately, she escaped without injury, but authorities warn that her actions could have left her in hospital.
