The Israeli military on Saturday said that a number of “Hamas militants” have infiltrated into Israeli territory after Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented infiltration into southern Israel. Palestinian media reports are also saying that five Israelis soldiers have been taken captive by Hamas. Israel has asked its residents to stay near bomb shelters in their homes and apartment buildings as videos on social media showed Hamas militants entering into residential neighbourhoods and firing at civilians. The sound of gunfire could be heard in the videos. The rocket fire comes during a period of heavy fighting in the West Bank, where nearly 200 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military raids this year.
