Australia is facing an egg supply crunch due to bird flu outbreaks, leading McDonald’s to reduce its breakfast hours by 90 minutes. The outbreaks of Avian influenza have resulted in about 1 million egg-laying hens being euthanised to curb the disease, according to Agriculture Minister Murray Watt. McDonald’s announced on Tuesday that breakfast will now be served until 10:30 a.m. instead of midday. The company cited "industry challenges" and stated on its Facebook page that it is "working hard with our Aussie farmers and suppliers to return this back to normal as soon as possible."
