A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Taiwan on Thursday, shaking buildings in Taipei but causing no significant damage, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported a slightly higher magnitude of 5.7 for the quake, which occurred just after 5 p.m. local time. The tremor's epicenter was in the sea, about 44 kilometers (27 miles) southeast of Yilan county, at a shallow depth of 11 kilometers (7 miles).
