Russia has banned the messaging platform Discord due to violations of local laws, as announced by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies, and Mass Media. The regulator on Tuesday, October 8, stated that Discord was included in the register of social networks, requiring the platform to identify and block unlawful content independently. The ban comes amid concerns that Discord was being used for terrorist and extremist activities, recruitment, and drug sales. Failure to comply with Russian regulations resulted in Discord being fined 3.5 million rubles (approximately USD 36,150).
