According to a report by The Guardian, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is exploring legislation that will prevent the next generation from ever being able to purchase cigarettes. Sunak is considering anti-smoking legislation similar to that introduced by New Zealand last year, which includes a prohibition on selling tobacco to anybody born on or after January 1, 2009, according to the reports. We want to encourage more people to quit smoking and achieve our goal of being smoke-free by 2030, which is why we have already taken actions to lower smoking rates, a British government official told Reuters in an emailed statement.
