Two trains collided in Boulder late Thursday night injuring two conductors and causing significant damage, including the destruction of a rail bridge. The accident occurred near Pearl Parkway, close to 48th and Arapahoe, temporarily closing the area until it was reopened around 7 a.m. Friday. Initial concerns about fuel leaking into Boulder Creek were later dismissed. Boulder Police reported that the train involved was approximately a mile long, with cleanup efforts ongoing. Xcel Energy is currently working to repair a power line damaged in the incident. The cause of the collision, which occurred north of Boulder Community Hospital, is under investigation. No city property was damaged except for some trees.
