Many statues at Shaheed Memorial Complex Mujibnagar in Bangladesh capital Dhaka have been vandalised. One of the sculptures that depicts Pakistan's surrender in the 1971 war and signing of the "Instrument of Surrender" was also destroyed. Statues showcasing atrocities and horrors committed during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 were also damaged. Pictures and videos of the vandalism surfaced online on August 11. It remains unclear who vandalised the iconic statues and what their motive was. The incident comes days after Sheikh Hasina's ouster as Prime Minister.
