Bangladesh security forces recently launched a crackdown on supporters of US President-elect Donald Trump, detaining several individuals involved in victory rallies in Dhaka and other cities. These gatherings, reportedly celebrating Trump’s win in the US election, were halted as authorities confiscated banners and posters. Videos circulating on social media show police interrupting the celebrations and making arrests. The crackdown comes shortly after Trump’s condemnation of violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, which he described as a “total state of chaos.” Muhammad Yunus, a known Trump critic, has linked rising violence against minorities to political motives, while Trump has vowed to protect vulnerable communities. Tensions between Trump and Yunus date back to 2016 when Yunus allegedly donated to the Clinton Foundation during Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
