Pakistani blogger Asma Batool from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has been arrested for blasphemy after sharing a poem criticising crimes against women. The poem, penned by Salman Haider and shared on Facebook following the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, reads, "Khuda, Bhagwan or Ishwar, sab maujood they, jab rape hua." Batool, who shared another post on Instagram narrating a poem which she captioned, "My country is the same as yours", was accused of "insulting Allah" in an FIR filed by Maulana Tahir Bashir, president of Ahlus Sunnat Wal Jamaat in Poonch on August 25. Denouncing the arrest, activists across Pakistan are calling for her release on social media. Kolkata Doctor's Rape-Murder Case: Police Clarify Bike Used by Accused Was Registered Under Commissioner’s Name as Standard Procedure.
