Pakistani blogger Asma Batool from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has been arrested for blasphemy after sharing a poem criticising crimes against women. The poem, penned by Salman Haider and shared on Facebook following the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, reads, "Khuda, Bhagwan or Ishwar, sab maujood they, jab rape hua." Batool, who shared another post on Instagram narrating a poem which she captioned, "My country is the same as yours", was accused of "insulting Allah" in an FIR filed by Maulana Tahir Bashir, president of Ahlus Sunnat Wal Jamaat in Poonch on August 25. Denouncing the arrest, activists across Pakistan are calling for her release on social media. Pakistani Blogger Charged with Blasphemy
A young progressive activist Asma Batool in Poonch, #PoJK, is being wrongfully accused of blasphemy.
They want to punish her for challenging political elites and patriarchal oppression.
This is emblematic of Pákistan’s repressive tactics to silence voices of dissent in POJK! pic.twitter.com/mxsWVVSUJs
