Aryan Anand, an Indian student at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, has been deported after a shocking confession on Reddit revealed he faked his father's death and forged academic documents to secure a scholarship in the United States. The viral post has prompted swift action from university and immigration authorities. In the now-deleted Reddit post, Anand admitted to fabricating his father's death certificate and forging his high school mark sheets to qualify for a prestigious scholarship at Lehigh University. The post, intended as a "confession," quickly garnered attention, leading to an investigation by the university's administration. Although he did not name himself or the university, a Reddit moderator noticed his post, did some digging and figured out that Anand was a student at Lehigh. The moderator alerted the university and passed on all the evidence he had. Anand was arrested two months ago and pleaded guilty to forgery on June 12, 2024. His admission to Lehigh has been revoked. The 19-year-old will only face expulsion and deportation back to India, thanks to a plea deal with the university.
