Marxist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake triumphed in Sri Lanka's 2024 presidential election, defeating incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The country’s election commission confirmed on Sunday that Dissanayake, 55, secured 42.31% of the vote in Saturday's election. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa finished second, while Wickremesinghe placed a distant third.  The election results were officially posted on the commission’s website, signaling a shift in the nation’s leadership.
