Amsterdam police are launching an innovative and emotional campaign to solve the 2009 murder of 19-year-old sex worker Betty Szabó. To mark the beginning of a final, intensified effort to bring justice, authorities have created a life-size hologram of Betty, which is now displayed in the heart of the city's notorious Red Light District on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal. The hologram, inspired by Betty’s likeness, can be seen standing behind a window, asking passersby for any information that could help solve the case. On February 20, 2009, Betty was tragically found in a bloodied state in one of the district's "peeskamers" (sex rooms), where she was brutally murdered. Despite an intensive investigation at the time, the case has remained unsolved. Now, over a decade later, the police have launched this new approach, hoping the striking and poignant hologram will jog the memory of anyone who may have information about that fateful night. The hologram will be on display from November 9 to November 16, 2019, in the Korte Stormsteeg and Oudezijds Achterburgwal areas of the Red Light District. Police hope that the striking imagery of Betty asking for help will encourage witnesses or individuals with information to come forward. In addition to the hologram, the police have increased the reward for information, leading to the resolution of the case to 30,000 euros. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant details to come forward, reminding the public that it is never too late to share information.
