Xiaomi was ordered by a Mumbai's consumer commission to pay INR 33,500 as compensation to a customer after failing to repair a smartphone that was defective due to a software update.
Recently, the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission in Mumbai ordered to pay INR 33,500 to a customer. The commission ordered this as the smartphone failed to be repaired. It started when the user updated the smartphone with the latest software version. The phone owner visited the Xiaomi multiple times, but the issue was not resolved, and the brand did not respond. Due to this, the user sent a legal notice to the brand, which was transferred to Mumbai's Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. The commission ordered Xiaomi India to pay INR 18,500 as a refund for the device with 15% depreciation per the norms. The company was ordered to pay INR 10,000 for deficiency in service and mental anguish, along with an additional INR 5,000 for litigation costs.
