Watch: Red Giant Dying Star Explodes for First Time As Astronomers Watch The Phenomenon in Real-Time
For the first time in Astronomy, scientists have captured the death of a red supergiant star from ground-based telescopes. When a star explodes, it quickly collapses itself and then suddenly explodes, using gases like hydrogen, helium, and other elements in its core as fuel.
What does a giant dying star look like? For the first time, scientists were able to witness the explosive end of an enormous star as it happened. Using ground and space-based telescopes, astronomers have found out that the star is about 120 million light-years away from Earth, and it was 10 times bigger than Sun before it burst out. Before they go out in flames, some stars experience violent eruptions or release glowing hot layers of gas. VVV-WIT-08, Giant Blinking Star, Spotted by Astronomers Near Milky Way.
