NASA said that on September 30, its Perseverance rover turned its Mastcam-Z camera towards the Martian sky and captured a remarkable view of Phobos, Mars' small and irregularly shaped moon, as it passed in front of the Sun in a partial solar eclipse. Sharing a video of the event on X (formerly Twitter), NASA said, "Ever feel like someone's watching you?" The US Space Agency's Perseverance Mars rover said that that's how it felt when it observed the transit of the Martian moon Phobos. "The pupil in this "googly eye" is the potato-shaped moon, and the iris is our Sun," the post read. In an official statement, NASA said that the tiny, potato-shaped moon Phobos, which is one of two Martian moons, cast a silhouette as it passed in front of the Sun, thereby creating an eye in Mars’ sky.
