NASA's Curiosity rover captured historic images of Earth and Mars’ moon Phobos, together in the Martian sky. This is the first time the rover has photographed its home planet alongside one of Mars' natural satellites. The images were taken by Curiosity's Mast Camera (Mastcam), during a regular imaging session of the Martian sky. In the photograph, the Earth appears as a bright, bluish-white dot, while Phobos appears to be a smaller, darker speck nearby. The images showcase the technological capabilities of the Curiosity rover. Besides, the celestial alignment gave the scientists a unique perspective on Earth’s position in the solar system from Mars.

That's Phobos, one of Mars' two moons – and the tiny evening "star" to its right is Earth! It's the first time I've captured them together in a photo. #ObserveTheMoon pic.twitter.com/VBXSO15AC6
