NASA recently took to social media to share a stunning image of the Cat’s Eye Nebula, a planetary nebula. Though the Cat’s Eye Nebula, also known as NGC 6543, was one of the first planetary nebulae discovered, it is still one of the most complex ones ever observed. This stunning image was captured by the Nasa Hubble Space Telescope. The image shows an intricate bullseye or cat’s eye pattern with 11 or more concentric shells or rings. Each ring is the edge of a spherical bubble projected onto the sky. Observations suggest that the central star released its mass in pulses every 1,500 years.
