Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is reportedly testing a technology that will allow users to connect without using SIM. The Indian government-run BSNL has been working on "Direct to Device" or "D2D" tech, allowing users to call and send messages via satellite without needing a SIM on any mobile network. For D2D service, BSNL has partnered with Viasat and completed successful trials. Using 'Direct to Device' technology, users can make audio and video calls without requiring a SIM from a telecom operator. This technology is said to boost connectivity in rural areas and prove helpful during emergencies.
