The initiative is seen as part of an effort to prevent fraud involving fake identity or address documents used to obtain mobile connections. The DoT has developed a system to detect such fraudulent connections. To further address this issue, the DoT also advised users to check for any unknown numbers issued in their name by visiting the Sachar Saathi portal.
