Digital arrest scams are on the rise in India, with many scammers pretending to be TRAI officials and accusing users of using their mobile phones for criminal activities. After accusing the users, the perpetrators will force them to join a video call and tell them they are under "Digital Arrest". The Digital Arrest scammers will further pressure the users for hours, leading to them transferring large amounts of money to these individuals. To convince the users they are from TRAI, the scammers use Fake IDs and threaten the victims to submit to their demands and further manipulate them. Department of Telecommunication advised the users to verify whom they are speaking with and never share their personal information without getting proper confirmation. Further,  the department said to report such suspicious calls as soon as possible. This announcement comes when the scammers recently struck UP's Gorakhpur and put a retired bank employee under 33 hours of "Digital Arrest". IT Rules 2021: Government’s Grievance Appellate Committees Dispose 937 Cases out of 1,065 Total Received Since 2023 To Ensure Safe and Trusted Internet.
