Vinesh Phogat would receive a gold medal from Haryana Khap Panchayat after she returns to the country from the Paris Olympics 2024. The ace grappler was dramatically disqualified from the final of women's wrestling 50kg final after she was found to be overweight by just 100 grams. Heartbroken, she subsequently announced her retirement from wrestling. Sombir Sangwan, the MLA of Charkhi Dadri said that they would honour Vinesh Phogat with a Bharat Ratna besides also asking her to reconsider her retirement. They also demanded a Bharat Ratna for the wrestler. Phogat, however, filed an appeal for a joint silver medal at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), the verdict of which is slated to come out on August 13.
