World number three Carlos Alcaraz on Friday withdrew from the Italian Open due to a right forearm injury. The injury sidelined him in Monte Carlo and Barcelona also. In his return, Alcaraz saw his 14-match winning streak in Madrid come to an end with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. The 2023 Wimbledon champion won the Indian Wells Masters this season and is focused on the upcoming French Open tournament. Upon his withdrawal from the Italian Open he shared a post on X and wrote, “I felt some pain after playing in Madrid (he lost on Wednesday), some discomfort in my arm. Unfortunately, I will not be able to play in Rome.
