Praveen Kumar Wins Gold Medal in Men's High Jump T64 Event at Paris Paralympics 2024, Clears 2.08 M to Set New Asian Record
Earlier, Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu had clinched silver and bronze medals respectively in the Men's High Jump T63 event. India had earlier surpassed its best-ever medal haul at the Paralympic Games, going past the 19-medal mark which set in Tokyo three years ago.
Praveen Kumar won the gold medal in the Men's High Jump T64 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Friday, September 6. The para-athlete pulled off a magnificent performance, clearing 2.03m and then went on to clear 2.06m and 2.08m in his subsequent attempts. The 2.08m mark is his personal best and a new Asian record as well. Praveen Kumar won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and has upgraded the colour of his medal this time around. With this, India's medal rush continued at Paris Paralympics 2024 with the nation having won a 26th medal. This was also India's sixth gold medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
