The 16-year Tamil Nadu lad outshone the Norwegian chess stalwart and left the sports world in awe. With this victory, he became the third Indian to outclass Carlsen.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa after the latter defeat world champion Magnus Carlsen at the Airthings Masters on Monday. Taking to Twitter, Modi wrote, "We are all rejoicing on the success of the young genius R Praggnanandhaa. Proud of his accomplishment of winning against the noted champion Magnus Carlsen."
